Free webinar to help businesses understand mental health in the workplace

Date published: 29 June 2020

In partnership with Rochdale Council, Northern Employment Services and Rochdale Training, a free ‘Mental Health in the Workplace’ webinar will be hosted tomorrow (Tuesday 30 June) via Zoom.

Aimed at managers, middle managers, and team leaders, the Zoom training session will begin at 2pm and will help managers to understand mental health better, identify a member of their team struggling and support their employees through difficult times.

Daisy Silva, a resilience and performance coach for Rochdale Council, will be the key speaker.

Kirsty Wilkinson, Operations Director at Northern Employment Services, said: “We hosted a mental health seminar in January 2020 in conjunction with RMBC, Rochdale Training and Peninsula Business Services, and who knew that six months on we would have millions of UK citizens assessing their own mental health, many of whom may never have had reason to previously.

“Whilst we’re all in the same storm, we’re not all in the same boat. We’ve all been on very different voyages, and never has the need for support been so great.

“We may be a front line worker that’s worked throughout lockdown, in very worrying circumstances. We may have been on furlough for 3+ months. We may live alone and feel isolated and lonely. We may be home-schooling young children like we have never done before. We may have elderly family members that we have not hugged for months. We may be worried about our financial future. There are infinite possibilities, all of which test our mental health.

“Based on the seminar we ran in January, and now that we’re starting to see a little bit of light, albeit with a long way to go, we felt duty bound to follow up and further support our clients and local businesses in identifying when a member of their team is suffering and how they can help. It is something that we should be talking about more often, as it can go unnoticed so often. Now, more than ever."

Whilst the webinar is a free event, organisers are asking businesses who take part to donate to MIND, to help support all the valuable work they do.

Kirsty added: “In the current climate, we need to be pulling together and supporting one another, as such the seminar(s) are free of charge, we are simply asking for donations through our JustGiving page to MIND. MIND are such an important charity and we feel the work they do with individuals, communities and businesses is so crucial, especially now, so we’re delighted that all of us together are able to support them.”
