Revamp for Wallis’ Amusements at Hollingworth Lake

Date published: 25 February 2022

Visitors to Hollingworth Lake can now drop in at a revamped cafe which includes ice cream and arcade games next door.

The cafe and kitchen at Wallis’ Amusements has undergone a complete refurbishment in the last couple of months and re-opened to the general public on 18 February.

The business has been in the Wallis family for 53 years and has progressed from an arcade with ice cream vans which used to travel to fairgrounds, into the modern cafe it is today.

Jess Wallis, whose sister Jade now part-owns the business with their father, said: “It was really dated how it was, my dad’s had it for so many years. He was actually going to sell the business to someone else but my sister came home from travelling and that's why she took over.

“Through the lockdown we had a takeaway counter at the front, so we could only do a little bit. Obviously nobody could come inside, the arcade was on and off for being open, so hopefully this summer will be a lot better now the restrictions are over.”

Jess also confirmed that the business has enjoyed a busy first week since its re-opening thanks to it being half-term, although the rainy weather hasn’t helped proceedings.
