Score! Play football whilst earning a BTEC level 3 sports diploma with guaranteed future pathways

Date published: 15 March 2021

If you’re finishing school this summer, and want to play football full time whilst earning a BTEC level 3 diploma in sport look no further than Rochdale AFC Sports College.

The Level 3 BTEC Sport and Football qualification starting in September 2021 is a scholarship programme catering for boys and girls, offering an “Outstanding” rated education, complemented by a football programme in the unique environment of a professional football club.

With a 100% pass rate, Rochdale AFC Sports College is the only sports college in the borough which is partnered with the EFL and the LFE, with guaranteed pathways to university and USA football scholarships.

The exciting two-year course for 16-18-year-olds will see you play the beautiful game four days a week, with 10 hours of studying at the Crown Oil Arena. You will receive a free education tracksuit and training kit, plus a laptop and £30 weekly bursary.

You will also have the chance to compete in the EFL’s U19s 11-aside league against other professional football clubs whilst you study.

The expert tutors and small class numbers at the sports college means there is a close knit environment with a focus on pastoral care and individual development that larger colleges or football led programmes cannot match. The majority of students progress onto university or achieve playing scholarships in America.

This year alone two male students and one female student have been awarded football scholarships to America, and you could be next.

The learning style of the sports college focusses on the individual and is typically based on:

  • Small group sessions
  • Tutorials
  • Practical delivery
  • Written assessments
  • FA coaching badges
  • Career development
  • Work experience
  • Progression

For enrolment 2021, interviews are being held during the Easter holidays and spaces are very limited.
