Letter: A public thank you to the wonderful people of Rochdale

Date published: 05 March 2018

Dear Editor,

I found myself stuck in Rochdale during the recent arctic storm with every road closed and gridlocked.

After sleeping in my car on Thursday night in a cold minus five degrees I managed to secure a place at the Rochdale Premier Inn on Friday evening.

It took me five hours to drive one mile and I was cold, tired and hungry.

This is a public thank you to every single person who braved the elements bringing hot drinks and soup to us stranded drivers.

The people in the North are known to have big hearts and recent events only enhanced my view.

Also, the staff at the Premier Inn and the restaurant were amazing. They went over and above the call of duty. They displayed the best of humanity and I shall remember their acts of kindness for a long time.

Thank you again hero and heroines of Rochdale.

Mike Martin
