What everyone should understand both councillors Farnell and Brett have a history of doing this, yet the Labour Group elected them. They have always shown the tendency to divide and rule and then to rule by force.

So what do we have now, a deposed leader suspended by the Labour Party at national level and being investigated by the Metropolitan Police.

A current leader found to have brought the council and his position into dispute.

One Labour area which elected a Labour councillor in May being investigated for election fraud.

The council borrowing is out of control and a large proportion of our council tax is used to pay off debt raised by this council.

The biggest rise in councillor expenses ever, and the pay rise given to the councillors used to raise a 7% levy on the councillors to pay a debt on the Rochdale Labour Club.

Money spent to promote Rochdale but ignoring Heywood and many other borough assets. new uniforms for council workers.

Green belt land offered up for redevelopment, whilst many brown field sites remain unused and have done for years.

It is time for the National Labour Party to intervene and suspend the Rochdale Borough Labour Group.

That may not be enough to save democracy locally, it is time for the Government to send in the inspectors and run the Council.

Yours,

Colin Lambert
Former Labour Leader of the Council
