The 35th Rochdale Brownies enjoyed a fun day out in the autumn sunshine planting hundreds of crocus bulbs in Milnrow Memorial Park and giving the park’s wildlife and visitors a colourful springtime treat to look forward to.

The session, on Saturday (26 November), was part of a Helping Our Local Wildlife project which aims to help young people get actively involved in caring for wildlife close by to where they live.

The project being run by local social enterprise NatureEd CIC has been made possible thanks to funding from Rochdale Borough Council Pennines Township.

Jude Murray, a Director of NatureEd CIC said: “Helping Our Local Wildlife eco-activities are a great chance for children to learn about wildlife in the Pennines area and we are delighted to be able to support groups like the 35th Rochdale Brownies as they work towards their Wildlife Explorer badges.

“We know how hard it is to give a varied programme of activities whilst keeping costs low.

“Having the Pennine Township funding has really helped. We have been able to subsidise the cost of the sessions, create new resources and buy specialist equipment for the children to use.

“We do still have a few Helping Our Local Wildlife sessions available.

“Any leaders of voluntary youth organisation in the Pennines area of the borough interested in taking part should email us as soon as possible on NatureEd@hotmail.com and hopefully together we can encourage future eco-champions for the Pennine Township.”
