Woods turn to wool in Littleborough Arts Festival

Date published: 16 May 2017

Students and local community groups recently got together with Littleborough Arts Festival in a ‘craft meets nature’ celebration.

The ‘wool bomb’ of Littleborough’s Hare Hill Park featured knitted designs created by students from local schools and colleges as part of Littleborough Arts Festival’s Woollen Woods project.

A blanket of quirky designs covered trees, fields, benches and buildings in and around the village’s park area.

One of the most popular woollen residents was ‘Monty the Mole’, with huge woollen sheep and spiders also drawing attention from passers-by.

Joan Cook, a Skills for Life lecturer at Hopwood Hall College, oversaw her students’ underwater themed contribution to the community event: “It was fabulous to see the community come out and produce such clever designs. This was our first time coming and we thought it was really good, there were a lot of innovative creations.

“We were surprised by the variety of ideas around the park, but I think our students did a really good job too.

“Most importantly they enjoyed taking part and making a contribution to the event.”
