Wardleworth Community Centre health open day

Date published: 23 May 2017

As part of improving health and well-being for local community, Wardleworth Community Centre organised a Health Open Day on 22 May to raise awareness and provide information and advice to local communities about the forthcoming month of Ramadan which will commence in 29 May.

As the Ramadan fast last from dawn till dusk, the body’s energy can be replaced in the pre-dawn and dusk meals. A balanced food and fluid intake is important between fasts. The centre provided a sample display of balanced diet for all those observing the fast.

Living well group delivered bilingual information and advice to participants on reducing blood pressure, information about long term effects of diabetes, and gave detailed information and background information as to what happens if we ignore health advice.

MD Doulot Miah, manager at Wardleworth Community Centre, said: “We are pleased to see so many people attending our health open day and taking an active part in finding out more about healthier lifestyles during Ramadan.

“The underlying message behind Ramadan is self-discipline and self-control.

“Those who are unwell or have a health condition that could be affected then please consult your GP first for advice about fasting.

"For anyone who smokes this is also an excellent time to quit and help is available to all who wish to do this.”
