Whitworth Family Fun Day and Dog Show

Date published: 10 July 2017

The Whitworth community came out in force with their family pets and enjoyed a variety of rides, entertainments, competitions and refreshments in the glorious sunshine on Sunday for the annual Family Fun Day and Dog Show.

Attractions on the Riverside car park included funfair rides and games, ice cream and candy floss and ten fun dog show categories with prizes for the scruffiest mutt, waggiest tail, best fancy dress, best biscuit catcher, best rescue dog and more, judged by representatives from the RSPCA, Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue and the Town Council and presented by the Mayor of Whitworth, Councillor Alan Neal.

The Best in Show prize was awarded to Zara Leech, aged seven and her one-year-old Pomeranian Teacup called Ted. Ted and Zara earned their place in the Best in Show after winning the Fancy Dress Category dressed as Woody and Jessie from Toy Story.

Samba Dance and Fitness provided fantastic entertainment by their different dance teams and Rossendale Responsible Animal Rescue provided a free micro-chipping service.

RRG Toyota Rochdale supported the event by supplying a car filled with balloons for a guess the number of balloons competition; the winner was Carole Pennington, who won a £150 voucher with her guess of 200 balloons.

Councillor David Chorlton, chairman of the Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee, says: “We had a great day and thanks are offered to everyone who came along and joined in the fun, and to everyone involved in the event’s organisation.”

Now in its eighth year, the annual Family Fun Day at the Riverside is organised by the Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee volunteers.
