PE News

Around 60 students from years 7-11 took part in the Catholic Athletics at Sport City on Tuesday.

All of the students were a credit to the School and behaved impeccably well throughout the day.

We finished 3rd overall out of 12 schools after some excellent personal and team performances. Some of our students performed outstandingly well, in particular Basil Zola.

Basil represented the School at the triple jump event and broke the previous year 7 record, jumping a huge 10.97 metres. His performance has led to him being scouted for local athletics clubs.

Other stand out performances came from Anisio Jesus in year 7 who won the 100m sprint event, the year 7 boys relay team and the year 10/11 girls relay team who both came second.

Deep Learning Day

Each year group spent the day involved in a range of activities covering areas such as emotional wellbeing, money management, science, technology and engineering.

Year 7

Crime Scene Investigators took over the Science Department on Monday. The students saw that “Miss Price was found murdered on the science corridor”, pupil interviews and more evidence was found as the morning progressed and the culprit turned out to be “Basher Barlow”.

During Deep Learning Day Year 7 were involved in a theatre production aimed at emphasising the need to stay safe on the roads.

Remember don't use your phone when crossing a road, use a zebra or pelican crossing where there is one, be alert and aware of the dangers around you and if using a bike or a scooter ALWAYS wear a helmet.

Year 8

Year 8 have been taking part in some Science, Technology, Engineering and Math challenges this week with some very impressive technical builds.

Expressive Arts - Boy's Squad Debut

The St. Cuthbert’s Boy's Squad (Male Vocal Group) made their debut performance on Monday lunch time at a meeting where next year's school show was announced.

The five outstanding young gentlemen from Years 8 and 9 performed to a packed crowd of fellow students, singing John Legend's ‘All of Me’ and Sean Mendez's Mercy.

The power of their performance will doubtlessly inspire other budding young men to take to the stage in the upcoming auditions later this week.

The audience were there to discover the title of next year's school show, which has been revealed as Broadway Spectacular and will feature songs from the biggest Broadway and West End hits of the last 60 years.

Auditions for all Year groups will be taking place this week on Tuesday for Year 7, Wednesday for Year 8, Thursday for Year 9 and Friday for Year 10.

Auditions will take place in the Music room (408), and auditionees are asked to meet in the main hall first (405).

This year's audition piece is the opening of the song Summer Nights from Grease. We look forward to seeing you there!

Linc News

This week it was Bamford Academy’s turn to visit St. Cuthbert’s.

They spent the morning with Mrs Moore and Mr Brown in the Learning and Innovation Centre. All of the students created a slot for their radio broadcast including a jingle, selling points and an interview about an event in school.

They then selected commercial radio adverts and songs to complete their broadcasts. During the morning, the students also had the opportunity to complete a radio quiz by identifying songs, theme tunes and TV adverts.

The enthusiasm of the group was made apparent when we listened to the radio shows through our built-in classroom sound system.

DEN News

Persephone and Emma held a 'cake and juice' event in The DEN.

They were raising money as part of their guide's mission to provide more 'comfort bags' for local hospitals. Comfort bags are given to patients who find themselves in hospital unexpectedly, following the Manchester terrorist attack hospitals in the area now have a shortage of bags.

Emma and Elizabeth made some gorgeous cakes and flapjacks and together the girls raised nearly £40.

Mr Jones's Lifeskills group have been very busy using a range of machinery and materials to create key rings, nautical themed mobiles and cookie cutters. All the group have thoroughly enjoyed the sessions.

This week the Teens and Toddlers group each received a High Street Voucher for taking part in a focus group to assess the effectiveness of the programme. They all commented on how their confidence had increased since starting the course.

On Friday, the 'Decipher Assist' peer support trainees had their final session. They all received certificates and now plan to work with the new Year 7 form classes when they start in September.
