Open Garden Day and Sun Flower Appeal

Date published: 14 July 2017

Springhill Hospice’s award-winning gardens will once again be open for everyone to enjoy.

The Open Garden Day will see the grounds of the Broad Lane Hospice blooming and bursting with glorious flowers, vegetables and fruits, ready to welcome the public.

Head gardener Nick and his team will be giving tours of the beautiful, established grounds and will be on hand to give expert advice as well as talk about how the gardens have developed over the years and talk in detail about the newest addition of the vegetable and herb gardens.

Visitors can also watch expert floral and hanging grow bag demonstrations, which will take place at 1.00pm and 2.00pm, sample the delights of homemade refreshments including freshly made pizza from the wood burning pizza oven, plus the chance to buy a variety of delicious cakes and drinks, as well as peruse the plant and vegetable garden produce stalls for something extra special to take home.

This year, alongside the Open Garden Day, the Hospice are celebrating everything summer with the launch of their Sunflower appeal.

This appeal gives supporters the chance of purchasing a beautiful sunflower plaque, either to keep at home, or to plant in the Hospice ground during the Open Garden Day. The vegetable garden and herbs beds will be adorned with the sunflowers until September.

“Our Sunflower Appeal is a chance for people to remember happy times past and present, helping to keep the memories strong, at the same time as supporting the Hospice” said Elaine McConnell, Springhill’s Regular Giving Co-ordinator.

If you’d like more information about joining the Sunflower Appeal, by purchasing a beautiful, all – weather sunflower plaque, visit www.springhill.org.uk/sunflower-appeal

When you receive your plaque you can customise it with your brief dedication and you can choose to display it at home or in the Hospice gardens. Closing Date - Tuesday 25 July.

You can order as many plaques as you wish, each for a minimum donation of £5 plus 50p postage, or you can purchase one on the open day itself. If you have purchased a sunflower before the 25 July entry to the Open Garden Day is free, when you bring your sunflower with you.

Open Garden Day is on Sunday 6 August between 11.00am and 3.00pm, entry to the Open Garden Day is £3.
