MPS Society benefits thanks to Katie Heath’s afternoon tea

Katie Heath, 12, and her mum Elizabeth raised £525 by organising an afternoon tea at their church.

The Whitworth Community High School student presented the money at the MPS Society’s biennial conference in Coventry, with her parents Jason and Elizabeth.

Katie said: “At the conference I got to meet other children that I had met before at previous conferences and some new ones.

“While the adults were at the conference, we got to go to a theme park with carers and volunteers. We also went to Hatton Animal World.”

Katie’s brother Jack had a rare genetic condition MPS II Hunter Syndrome, which affected his speech, mobility and development and he passed away in June 2013, aged 13.

She said: “A lot of the children had different versions of MPS and, when asked, I explained about my brother and how I used to help him.”

Katie said the family still collect stamps to help raise money for the charity and urged any businesses to donate any used stamps.
