Trees vandalised across Caldershaw estate

Date published: 09 September 2017

Residents have reported ‘unacceptable behaviour’ after a number of trees have been vandalised recently on the Caldershaw estate.

Over the first weekend in September, several trees close to residents’ properties have been set alight, resulting in a visit from the fire service.

Paul Ellison, chairman of the Norden Environmental and Economical Village Association, said: “A resident’s son witnessed one incident and called the fire brigade. It seems like two or three youths late at night using petrol or a flammable spray to set trees alight near properties on the Caldershaw Estate.

“This behaviour is unacceptable and a mindless act of vandalism, which could have ended in tragedy with being so close to residential houses.”

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue has been contacted for comment.
