Aaron Diskin lands dream job at BBC

Date published: 12 September 2017

With the end of his Creative Media course at Hopwood Hall College nearing, Aaron Diskin, 18, from Norden, applied for a media apprenticeship at the BBC’s Media City offices.

Although he made it to the final 20 applicants, Aaron was ultimately unsuccessful in his apprenticeship pursuit.

Aaron said: “I was devastated when I didn’t get the apprenticeship. I knew I was doing well when I got to the final 20, but when I did not make the cut it really hit me.”

However, the story did not end there, so impressed was the BBC with his apprenticeship application and the extra-curricular work performed in his private time, the BBC offered him a full-time role as a 'runner'.

As a runner for BBC Sport at their Media City head offices in Salford, Aaron is responsible for guest hospitality, administration tasks and assisting in the editing process among other responsibilities.

He said: “As bad as I felt when I did not get the apprenticeship, now I am where I am it has been a great life lesson.

“If you want to get somewhere that is not the right path, you should put yourself out there and test yourself, your strengths and your weaknesses.

“If you have a passion, pursue it and do not give up when times get difficult as you always come out the other side as a stronger person.”
