PE News

Following on from his recent success in the Rochdale Schools Athletics competition, the PE department encouraged Year 7 student Basil Zola to attend Sale Harriers and develop his natural athletic ability.

On Saturday of this week, he represented Sale Harriers in the YDL national finals at the Alexander stadium.

His first event of the day was the high jump where he eventually cleared 1.64m breaking the championship record and won the event.

He then competed in the 100m and despite feeling a little fatigued from the high jump managed to finish in second place.

Not content with winning one jumping competition, Basil then let loose in the long jump clearing a distance of 5.15m in the first round to achieve a personal best and win the competition.

Finally, alongside his team mates, he competed in the relay and finished in 2nd place.
The PE department are exceptionally proud of his achievements and look forward to watching his development over the coming years.

St Cuthbert's 'Broadway Spectacular' show

Congratulations to all students who passed their audition for St Cuthbert's 'Broadway Spectacular'. Over 100 pupils auditioned at the end of last term and rehearsals are now under way.

The Expressive Arts staff: Mr Turner, Mrs Knox and Mrs Maloney were so impressed with the talent on offer that it has been decided that this year's production will be a showcase of song, dance and dialogue from West End and Broadway hits such as 'Matilda', 'Sister Act' and 'Hairspray'.

This is a real challenge but as always, our wonderful pupils are demonstrating hard work and commitment.

An excerpt from the show will be performed at our Open Evening and regular updates will be available as our rehearsals progress. 'Let's go on with the show!'

Expressive Arts - boy band

The Expressive Arts department are extremely proud to introduce our male vocal group.
The group had their debut performance at the end of the summer term in front of a packed crowd in the Hall.

The boys: Michael Ellison, Kai Atkinson, Alex Dixon, Reaghan Fay and Sean Caffrey entertained their fellow pupils with their own versions of 'Mercy' by Shawn Mendes' and 'All of Me' by John Legend.

They will feature in the school's production 'Broadway Spectacular' in December.
These boys are real role models and demonstrate the power of positivity and teamwork.
