Hamer Boxing youngsters learning life saving skills

Date published: 16 January 2018

Young people at Hamer Amateur Boxing Club participated in a First Aid course on Saturday (13 January).

The course teaches young people life saving skills such as how to place an unconscious yet still breathing casualty into the recovery position whilst also sending out for help, how to carry out cardio pulmonary resuscitation to a none-breathing casualty, and not to put themselves into danger when approaching the casualty.

Hamer Head coach Steven Connellan said: "All the youngsters really had a great day. The practical, hands-on First Aid session taught them something they hadn't learned before and I was surprised how enthusiastic they were to learn such lifesaving skills.

“Each young person was taught how to react when approaching a casualty and how to perform the necessary skills needed to help.

“Hopefully they will never have to apply those skills in the future but if a situation did arise then I am sure they would fulfil the task needed to help."

Fida Hussain, of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, who delivered the course, said: "I would like to thank the young people at Hamer Amateur Boxing Club and the Hamer staff who made it such an excellent and easy day for me.”
