Grace’s Place Children’s Hospice looking for help to go around the world

Date published: 16 January 2018

Grace’s Place, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice wants to travel all around the world in its biggest fundraising challenge ever.

To go the distance, the charity is setting thousands of local children and people the challenge of travelling one or two miles during Children’s Hospice Week (21-27 May) to raise money for children with life-shortening conditions and their families living in Bury, Rochdale and Oldham.

Forget Me Not trialled the Around the World challenge in West Yorkshire last year when more than 24,000 children raised an astonishing £92,000 by walking, running and wheeling a total of 24,900 miles.

Grace’s Place, the charity’s new children’s hospice in Bury, has started caring for some of the 650 children with life-shortening conditions and their families living in North Manchester, and Forget Me Not is urging schools and youth organisations across the region to help it go Around the World again in 2018.

Helen Latham, senior fundraiser at Grace’s Place, said: “Until now, local children with life-shortening conditions and their families have had to struggle on alone.

“We are changing that, but to be able to reach out to all the families that need our help, we need to raise lots of funds.

"Going Around the World is a fantastic way for local children, families and schools to get involved, have fun, get moving and, most importantly, do something magical for children who live in Bury, Oldham and Rochdale.

“All money raised will be used to support the children and families at Grace’s Place so the more schools that get involved the further we will go, the more we will raise and the more children with life-shortening conditions we will be able to say yes to.”

The Around the World challenge is a significant part of Forget Me Not’s efforts to raise the £4 million it needs to run the charity each year. With just 4% of that provided by the government, the support and help of everyone in the community is vital.
