Rochdale Model Railway Exhibition

Date published: 09 April 2018

The 54th Rochdale Model Railway Exhibition took place at The Coach House in Littleborough on Saturday and Sunday.

Andy Cooper said: “The exhibition has gone really well, we have had more visitors than we had last year.

“This is the 53rd exhibition organised by the Rochdale Model Railway Group and the fourth to be held in Littleborough, following the success of our first three shows at the Coach House in April 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“In the style of our early exhibitions, showcasing the finescale modelling of our members and friends, this is a small, low-key but high-quality event featuring a selection of top quality exhibits.”

Layouts attending were:

  • Enigma Engineering, P4 gauge. Layout by Paul Gittins. Enigma Engineering demonstrates that you don’t need to have a big, complicated track plan to create a fulfilling P4 layout.
  • Crawton, OO, Shefield Model Railway Society. Crawton is the first layout built by a small group of individals specifically for exhibition use.
  • Tan Yr Allt, OO9 gauge. Layout by Stan Williams and Roger Christian. Based on Tan Yr Allt station on the famous Ffestiniog Railway in North Wales.
  • Fountain Colliery, OO gauge, layout by Chris Nevard. A factious colliery deep in the Forest of Dean depicting the final few years of the collieries existence.
  • Arcadia Penn Terminal, US O gauge. Layout by Dr David George. Arcadia Penn Terminal is a front (and rear) operated freelance, box-theater style ‘time saver’ layout depicting a fictitious, small industrial railroad terminal set in Arcadia, Pennsylvania, Easter USA.
  • Hebble Vale, EM gauge. Layout by Karl Crowther. The layout came out of a desire to build something set in the 1970s blue diesel era. I had always been fascinated by the GNR ‘Queensbury’ route from Halifax to Bradford and Keighley and in Halifax North Bridge in particular.
  • Harkness, EM gauge. Layout by Tony Bucknell. The Blford to Harkness Light Railway connected the East Coast Mainline at Belford to the small seaside village of Harkness to the north of Bamburgh in Northumberland.
  • Easingwold East, EM gauge. Layout by Alistair Oldfield. Easingwold East is a fictitious extention to a short branch line that ran between the small market town of Eastingwold and the main line of the North Eastern Railway at Alne, 12 miles north of York.

Traders attending were:

  • Class 40 Preservation Society
  • Todmorden Model Supplies
  • The Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Society

Rochdale Model Railway Group is a small band of predominantly 4mm modellers, we meet every Wednesday night 8pm to 10pm in Norden, Rochdale, and retire afterwards to a local hostelry to chew the fat of that night’s meeting and indulge in a beer or two. We don’t have a club layout any more, but instead collaborate and help out on each other’s projects and layouts.
