Dave Butterworth, a bass guitar player from Rochdale, is touring the UK with Faith – a George Michael touring theatre show.

Dave, the son of former Crimson Scarlet guitarist John Butterworth, has a BA(Hons) Degree in Music and has travelled the world as a session bass player. He is now a member of the George Michael touring theatre show until 2019, with shows confirmed all over the UK as well as in Germany and Ireland.

He said: “Music has been my passion since birth, the interest has always been there. I have played all sorts of instruments, but I finally decided to settle on the bass guitar.

“After I graduated university in 2014, I worked self-employed with bands covering functions like weddings and doing pub gigs. I just got calls to fill in for bassists whenever people needed me.

“This opportunity to tour came completely out of the blue; I think I just knew the right people at the right time, but it was definitely a surprise.

“We have been touring for just over a year now and the real beauty of it is it’s only weekend work. For the rest of the week I mainly spend my time in practice and rehearsals getting ready for three days work at the weekend.”

The tour up has had over 20 sold out shows and has over 80 confirmed dates around the UK. European dates are yet to be announced but Germany has been confirmed.

Dave added: “On this tour so far, the best show for me was at St David’s Hall in Cardiff, which was one of the sold out performances. I’m looking forward to playing in Newcastle later in the year too, but Europe will be amazing.

“I’m not sure what I will do after the tour yet, I take the days as they come and hope another opportunity will appear. I am always searching for the next big thing. After this door has closed hopefully another big one will open.”

Faith - The George Michael Legacy features international George Michael tribute artist Wayne Dilks together with his seven-piece band and backing singers. A musical journey of 35 years of hit records from Wham to George’s solo career, the show and production are based upon the George Michael 25 live tour (also known as the 25th anniversary tour). The show uses actual video footage from the 25 live tour displayed on our unique video wall, which is a first for any UK theatre show.

Faith – The George Michael Legacy will be performing at Middleton Arena on Saturday 28 April.
