Steve turns over a new LEAF

Date published: 19 April 2018

Steve Lister has resigned as Chairman of Littleborough Events and Associations Forum after 10 years at the helm of the voluntary group.

Steve has been the driving force behind the group since its inception and has been responsible for organising the highly successful Rushbearing Festival and Christmas Lights Switch-on.

Additionally, the group resurrected the monthly markets in Littleborough, created the Littleborough Food & Drink Festival in conjunction with local businesses and were trusted by Rochdale Council to organise a weekend of activities to celebrate the Tour de France when it passed by Littleborough.

This year will see the launch of a new event in Littleborough – The World Beer Keg Carrying Championships.

Councillor Ashley Dearnley said “Steve showed great vision for Littleborough and he worked in a collegiate way with other volunteers to achieve so much. He also appreciated and worked with Council and other public bodies for the benefit of our Village.”

“He leaves a great legacy for others to build upon.”

Councillor Janet Emsley said “Steve Lister gave his time, energy and passion to all that he did for the people of Littleborough through his work for LEAF. Having decided to ‘retire’ he will now have the time to enjoy the continuing events and activities that this hard working, dedicated group of volunteers organise. My heartfelt thanks to a true gentleman.”

Councillor Rina Paolucci said “I would like to thank Steve for all his hard work over the years and his valuable contribution to the Littleborough Community. He is a very special person and will be sorely missed by everyone.”

Councillor Ann Stott said “Steve has worked unstintingly at all times to ensure that community events take place for the good of residents and visitors alike.”

Steve retired from duty at the group’s Annual General Meeting on 4 April and was presented with a hand-carved leaf and a commemorative plaque.

The newly elected Chairwoman, Lisa Burke, said “I have known Steve and his work for a few years now and he is a friend and colleague.”

“It is an honour and pleasure to be trusted with the role that Steve has held for so long and I will endeavour to take LEAF forward in a manner Steve will be proud of.”

“He coordinated a team of amazing, enthusiastic and creative people committed to Littleborough and its issues while remaining a modest and special gentleman with a huge heart.”
