Rochdale in Bloom was awarded a gold medal

Rochdale in Bloom has received a gold medal for its outstanding display at the Tatton Park Flower Show earlier this year.

The Silent Soldier exhibit, a smaller version of the ‘pop-up’ garden near the Gracie Fields statue in Rochdale centre, was awarded both a gold and a plaque for the best Blooming Border at the RHS’ annual show in June.

The design and theme, based on 100 years’ celebration of the end of World War One, suitably featured a lone piper from the Oldham Scottish pipe band playing a lament, truly adding to the reflective atmosphere.

Paul Ellison, of the In Bloom committee, said: “It’s an honour to receive this beautiful engraved medal from The Royal Horticultural Society, I'm over the moon.

“I would like to give special thanks Jamie White, Mark and Ian Trickett, from Rochdale Borough Council, for helping out in this project, and Christine McHugh from Rochdale In Bloom for her marvellous planting up.

“None of this would have been possible without the generous sponsorship from Marshalls Plc and working relationship with Paul Rogers.

“I have enjoyed showcasing at Tatton this year and putting Rochdale firmly on the horticultural map. I've got big plans for the Tatton Park flower show next year, so watch this space.
