Hare Hill House Macmillan Coffee Morning
Over £1,800 was raised for charity at the Hare Hill House Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday (22 September).
People from all across Rochdale baked cakes and dished them up at Hare Hill House, before enjoying a slice with a cup of tea or coffee, to raise money for the scheme.
Several volunteers also braved the shave with beard or hair shavings in support of those who suffer with cancer.
Reuse Littleborough also supported the initiative, donating £900 to the cause.
All takings at the reuse group’s premises at the former Royal Oak Hotel – also known as ‘the hub that was a pub’ – were donated to the coffee morning appeal.
Michael Bamford, who runs the group, which aims to reuse many everyday items, raised £200 for the appeal with a sponsored head shave, and a sponsored beard shave raised a further £400.
Since 2015 Macmillan’s brave shavers have raised over £16.8 million for cancer research.
The first Macmillan coffee morning took place in 1990, a small affair with a simple idea. Guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, it was repeated again the next year, this time nationally.
Since then, coffee mornings have raised over £165.5 million for Macmillan.
