Thousands in Rochdale could be without power until Monday

Date published: 26 December 2015

Thousands of people in and around Rochdale town centre could be without power until Monday (28 December).

Electricity North West say it could take until 12:00 noon on Monday before power is restored to thousands of properties that have been without power since Saturday morning.

Electricity North is sending food vans to a number of locations on Sunday morning to provide hot food to customers without power. One food van in Rochdale will be located at Jutland Avenue, OL11 5DP, from 9.00am onwards. The other at Madeley Gardens, OL12 7BZ.

A spokesperson said: "We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the interruption to your supply and our engineers will work to restore your power as soon as possible."

The power cut came about due to severe flooding at the area's main substation.

Flood defences at Rochdale substation were upgraded in 2010 as part of a £468k scheme to protect power supplies against a '1-in-200-year' flood.
