A man has had his dog, Frank, taken away after he was caught on CCTV beating his dog outside Team Sasha dog groomer’s in Castleton on Monday morning (3 October).

The RSPCA removed Frank from his owner at 6.24pm last night (Tuesday 4 October), following a public outcry.

A video was uploaded to a campaign page by Team Sasha’s owner, Paula O’Connor, showing Frank’s removal with the message, “Frank is safe".

A social media group, 'Justice For Dog (Frank) Beaten By Owner', was set up and attracted more than 700 members and 50,000 views.

The shocking footage showed the tan Staffordshire bull terrier standing by a bus stop on Manchester Road at 10.18am.

Frank’s owner approached the cowering dog, before hitting him several times, and walking off with Frank on the lead.

Paula O’Connor, who is seen intervening in the footage, said: “My heart was in my mouth. I just couldn’t watch it, I had to go out and help the poor dog. Customers were in shock that they had witnessed it and felt sick.

“My job is to help animals; I will never stand by and see harm done to them.

“I approached him to tell him to leave the dog alone and he hit it again, telling me to ‘shut up, it’s my dog, you stupid slut’.”

The man had been reported to the RSPCA and Greater Manchester Police.

Team Sasha donates its profits to helping dogs in need in addition to taking in and rehoming dogs at risk of being put down because of medical issues.

They are now urging people to come forward and offer Frank a home.

A RSPCA spokesperson said: “"We are aware of this and are looking into it.”

"Anyone with any information that they think might help our investigation should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999."
