The Olde Boar’s Head nominated for ‘Best Food Pub’ at JW Lees Pub of the Year awards

The Olde Boar’s Head in Middleton has been nominated for ‘Best Food Pub’ at the JW Lees ‘Pub of the Year’ awards in Manchester on 12 July.

Leanne Clapperton, who has been landlady for around ten years, teamed up with good friend and local business man Jack Howard to create a new menu with longer hours after spotting a demand for quality food in Middleton.

Now serving until 8pm in the evenings and weekends, the business has been given a new lease of life with a menu boasting traditional pub fare and ‘the best burgers in the world’, served on bread from a local Jewish bakery and using local butchers, Lords of Middleton.

Mr Howard said: “It’s such an amazing pub; we had to do something. People travel far and wide for good food.

“It’s gone from strength to strength and continues to improve. We’ve completely transformed the pub and it has a great atmosphere.”

The Olde Boar’s Head is understood to be the longest trading public house in the UK, having been trading continuously since 1632.

The nomination is just one of many awards available to win on the night. Each year, JW Lees host the awards to recognise individuals and teams within their ‘family’, who excel within the industry to drive pub businesses forward.
