Cladding at Hopwood Hall College meets fire safety standards

Date published: 20 June 2017

The cladding fitted to the Rochdale campus of Hopwood Hall College meets all current fire safety standards and building regulations, the College has confirmed.

The College Head of Facilities & Risk Management conducted an investigation with the company who fitted the cladding and having done so said on behalf of the college: “Safety is of paramount importance at Hopwood Hall College and in light of the recent events in West London, we recently carried out a precautionary investigation into the cladding at the Rochdale campus.

“The investigation was carried out alongside the company that fitted the cladding and we can confirm that the cladding meets all meet all current fire safety standards and building regulations.

“The cladding at the Rochdale campus utilises only inert, solid aluminium which has an A1 non-combustible fire rating, whereas the Grenfell tower was over-clad using an ACM (Aluminium Composite Material) which has a nylon core that has to be treated with fire retardant in order to meet building regulations.”
