The borough is set to be transformed as we progresses into the Spring Clean 2017 – a huge clean-up operation to make areas cleaner, greener and safer.

Over the coming months, the Council will be trimming back overgrowth, clearing dumped rubbish and giving town centres a deep clean to create clean and tidy areas for residents to feel happier about.

The massive clean-up campaign will make a real difference to where you live in five different ways:

• Town centre deep cleans: Say goodbye to graffiti and chewing gum. We have special removal machines that will be used to keep your town centre squeaky clean.
• Fly-tipping, litter and rubbish: Teams will be out and about removing fly-tipping, litter and emptying bins.
• Dealing with dog poo: Environmental Enforcement Officers will be out and about encouraging dog owners to pick up after their pets. Dog owners caught dog fouling will be landed with an on the spot fine of £50.
• Greening borough gateways: Green spaces on arterial routes in and out of the borough have been earmarked for a makeover. Over the coming months these will be trimmed, cleared and planted with new, improved floral displays.
• Green space maintenance: Parks, gardens and other green spaces will be trimmed, cleared of rubbish and planted with new floral displays 

Head of environmental management, Martin Taylor is thrilled with the difference the Spring Clean is going to make to the borough. He said: "We work year round to make the borough somewhere to be proud of, and our streets, parks and green spaces are looking better than ever this year. Our Spring Clean programme for 2017 looks to build on the good work we do year round. Compliments on the cleanliness of our borough come in from residents each week and we continue to strive to make Rochdale and the surrounding areas somewhere people want to spend time and enjoy."

"We also want to reward residents who take pride in where they live. Environmental Enforcement Officers will be handing out £10 vouchers for Bowlee Garden Centre to litter champions – members of the public seen picking up a piece of litter on the street and putting it in a bin or residents known to regularly get involved in community litter picks."
