New rockery ready to feature in Rochdale In Bloom

Date published: 30 June 2017

This year’s Rochdale in Bloom entry got a boost this week with another colourful project, this time on Elmsfield Avenue in Norden. Over twenty tonnes of soil and local rock were planted up with a mass of vibrant plants to create the feature, which will form part of the judging route in this year’s competition.

The project was the idea of local resident Paul Ellison who arranged for the installation of the soil and rocks earlier this month and selected the plants. Paul said: “I’d like to thank all the volunteers who helped me plant the rockery for doing a fantastic job. A special thanks goes to Paul Rogers and Marshalls for sponsoring the project.”

Local Councillor Jim Gartside said: “This is a wonderful, colourful addition to the village and something that we hope will brighten a previously ordinary junction. The community volunteers have made an excellent contribution and I am sure that others will agree that this is a very welcome addition to the village.”

Rochdale in Bloom Chairman, Nigel Morrell said: “This enterprise represents a superb enhancement to the 2017 ‘In Bloom’ effort. Lots of volunteers have helped to make this happen and our special thanks have to go to Marshalls who have supported and sponsored the project.”

Judging for Rochdale in Bloom will take place on 1 August, when officials from the Royal Horticultural Society will visit the township to see this and many other community projects and planting features.
