Rear car park at Rochdale Leisure Centre for ‘permit holders only’

Date published: 19 October 2017

The rear car park at Rochdale Leisure Centre has been designated for ‘parking permit holders’ only – leaving visitors to the centre wondering where to park.

The Link4Life website states: “With immediate effect please do not park your vehicle in the parking area to the rear of the car park, behind the Sports Hall.

“This area is clearly marked as being for permit holders only Monday-Friday 8am-6pm. If you do not possess a Rochdale Borough Council Parking Permit and use this car park for any length of time between the above times you are likely to be issued with a parking enforcement notice and associated fine by one of the RBC Civil Enforcement Officers.

“We anticipate that the above will put pressure on the remainder of the car park and ask that non-Leisure Centre users do not use the car park.”

Brenda Cummings, who attends the centre several times each week, commented: “The leisure centre has a big problem with parking. If visiting the centre, there is often nowhere to park. This is a very unfair situation, where can we park?”

Andrew Storey, head of highways at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “The permit holders only section of the Rochdale leisure centre car park is not just for council workers, but anyone who wishes to buy a permit, subject to availability.

“Also, as permit holder parking is only valid from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, non-permit holders can park in these spaces outside those times. This car park has 163 parking spaces in addition to those which are designated for permit holders.”
