Heywood Township wins gold at RHS North West In Bloom Awards

Heywood Township’s entry in the RHS North West in Bloom 2017 competition won a gold award, the highest individual award available for a Township.

Held at Southport Convention Centre, the group picked up 10 awards on Wednesday 1 November and a further 12 on Friday 3 November, including eight gold awards.

• Level 3 Advancing for Bridgewood Lodge Sheltered Accommodation
• Level 3 Advancing for Hornby St Allotment
• Level 4 Thriving for Sandon House Community Centre
• Level 4 Thriving for Heywood Fire Station
• Level 4 Thriving for Heritage House Business Centre
• Level 4 Thriving for Heywood Memorial Gardens
• Level 4 Thriving for Springbank Care Home
• Level 4 Thriving for Roeacre Court
• Level 5 Outstanding for Cherwell Wellbeing Centre

Following the awards ceremony, Councillor Peter Rush said: “I was very pleased to be invited to the North West in Bloom awards representing Heywood Township: of the 29 awards available on the day, Heywood received 12 of them – including 8 golds.

“Thanks to the Heywood In Bloom team lead by Ellen Wintle Yates for the efforts and dedication over the preceding 12 months: their commitment and hard work certainly paid dividends on the day.”

Councillor Rush added: “This is a great achievement for our town and for the volunteers who carry out this work throughout the year. On behalf of Heywood Township, well done and keep up the good work.”

The award for All Souls Primary School is currently awaited.
