Heartless thieves cause hundreds of pounds’ worth of damage to RSPCA charity shop

Date published: 27 November 2017

Heartless thieves have caused hundreds of pounds’ worth of damage after breaking into the RSPCA charity shop on Yorkshire Street during the early hours of Monday morning (27 November).

The thieves trashed both the shop and the storage area, meaning that staff will now have to fund repairs using money that helps look after the animals in the RSPCA’s care.

A representative for the RSPCA said: “They did not get away with anything of great value, but they trashed the shop and the storage area. We will now have to carry out repairs, which means using money that should be used for the animals in our care.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed: "We were called just before 9am on Monday morning to reports of a burglary on Yorkshire St, which is believed to have happened sometime between about 4pm on Sunday and 8.30am the next day.

"Thieves have gained access to the property and stolen cash."

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Rochdale RSPCA branch or Greater Manchester Police, quoting crime reference 470 of 27 November.
