Winter Wonderwall at Rochdale AFC

Date published: 04 January 2018

A Winter Wonderwall is being created at Rochdale AFC by planting hundreds of winter plants.

Paul Ellison said: “The idea came after the huge success of the Wonderwall last summer, when we were awarded a 'Level Four' in the RHS North West In Bloom awards, the highest for a first time entry.

"The project was also part of Rochdale's Gold Medal winning route in the same competition.

“There was also a tremendous response from the general public who commented on this eye-catching and vibrant addition to the Spotland area.

“The new winter feature, on Sandy Lane, will create a fantastic floral feature for all passers-by and users of the Crown Oil Arena.

"It will also feature in the 2018 entry into Britain In Bloom, Rochdale's first ever entry into the national competition.”

The project is a collaboration by Rochdale In Bloom, local volunteers, Rochdale AFC and Rochdale Hornets.

Mr Ellison added: "We are looking for volunteers, planting is on Saturday 6 January between 10.00am – 12.00 noon, bring your own trowels.

"Many thanks to sponsors, Gordon Rigg, Rochdale In Bloom, Green Cloud IT, Crown Oil and Frances Fielding at Rochdale AFC for co-ordinating the Wonderwall project.”
