Man jailed after smashing into family home

A man from Middleton has been jailed after smashing into a family’s home during a burglary.　

Matthew Tyner (11/10/1980) of Wood Street, Middleton was sentenced to seven years and four months at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday (9 January) after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary. 　

The court heard how on Thursday 23 November 2017 at around 9.30pm, Tyner smashed through the rear patio doors of a property on Newsham Road, Stockport in an attempt to steal cash and keys. 　

The victims, a 27-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, refused to hand over their property. 　

The woman managed to climb out of a window to escape and raise the alarm whilst the couple’s children were asleep upstairs. 　

Tyner fled the scene empty-handed in a car.　

He was later caught and arrested.　

Detective Constable Matthew Tarr, of GMP Stockport Burglary Unit, said: “Tyner showed a complete disregard for this innocent family as he broke in to their house whilst they were relaxing and watching television.　

“Motivated by greed, he terrified this family in their own home - the place you should feel safe. Whilst they were not injured, they have to live with the trauma that has followed his appalling actions and are sadly still emotionally suffering.　

“I hope today’s sentencing goes some way to helping the family move forwards from this and also sends a message that we will not tolerate burglaries in Greater Manchester.”
