Two men arrested and charged after stealing cash from Metrolink ticket machines

Date published: 15 January 2018

Two men have been arrested and charged after stealing cash from a number of Metrolink ticket machines.

The thieves are understood to have cut into the note collectors of several machines along the Metrolink service route, including the one at Milnrow.

TfGM’s Head of Metrolink Danny Vaughan, said: “We take proactive steps to ensure our ticket machines are as secure as possible. All have internal security features which limit the risk of damage and theft and are further supported by additional measures such as a sprawling network of CCTV at all our stops and daily emptying of cash.

“Following a recent spate of thefts and attempted thefts from our machines, two men were arrested and charged and are currently going through the justice system.

“As a result of these recent incidents, we are now investigating what additional steps we can take to further enhance the security features of our machines to reduce the risk of these types of incidents happening again.”

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
