A nurse at Longford Street Medical Centre in Heywood, was honoured as ‘Practice Nurse of the Year’ and ‘Star of the Show’ at the NHS awards.

Individuals and teams from across Greater Manchester that have worked to ensure the very best care for patients were recognised at the awards ceremony.

On receiving the awards, Michele Corcoran, said: “I am completely overwhelmed and would like to thank my patients, their families, and all of the staff at Longford Street, without them I would not be able to do the job that I absolutely love doing every day.

"I am extremely passionate about enhancing patient care and I feel it is real privilege to look after people and be a part of their lives.

"I am so proud of my job and I feel very lucky to be able to work with some truly courageous and inspirational people.”

The judging panel were very impressed by the number of nominations Michele received, noting that there is real evidence that patients are benefiting.

Tina Long, Chief Nurse for Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “General practice nurses play a vital role, they are the first point of contact for many patients and undertake 70% of care for those with long term conditions.”
