Over £34 million of National Lottery funding distributed across Rochdale

Over £34 million of the money raised by National Lottery players for good causes has been awarded to communities across the Rochdale borough since 1995.

More than 1,100 local projects have received this funding –  ranging from small village halls to large local landmarks.

BME Women’s Voice, (2018)

The group received £7,000 to run dress making courses for women from different cultural backgrounds with the aim of reducing isolation, promoting social interaction between cultures and boosting self-esteem through gaining and sharing skills.

Milnrow Parish Church of England Primary School (2018)

It received £10,000 to create an allotment where pupils, their families and other community members will be involved in growing vegetables and learn about making healthier dietary and lifestyle choices.     

Multicultural Resource Centre, community recipe book project (2018)

It received nearly £10,000 to create a community recipe book that reflects the cultural diversity of Rochdale. It will include guidance for how to make a Christmas pudding, traditional Diwali treats and an old family recipe for falafel passed down through generations. The book hopes to raise awareness of different religious festivals and help strengthen acceptance and understanding in the community.

Buddies for All – HomeStart Rochdale £312, 897 (2016)

Befriending activities for people, with children aged five to 11, who require support with complex mental health difficulties prior to reaching crisis point. Trained volunteers will provide practical and emotional assistance to families and adults within their own homes, improving their emotional wellbeing and independence.

Every Body Dances: Creative Movement & Dance for Older People, Spiral Dance £114,100

Dance classes and activities for older people will be held in community centres, residential homes and hospitals. Physical activity and social wellbeing will be promoted to older people in the townships of Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale and Penne.

Homeshare – PossAbilities CIC (2015)

The group were awarded £267,000 to develop a Homeshare scheme, matching older householders with a spare room but in need of a little support and company with younger home-sharers looking for affordable accommodation.

Door to Door Furniture Recycling project – Bond Board Ltd £116,260 (2017)

This project works with homeless households and those living in rented accommodated in Rochdale. With a focus on those experiencing extreme financial difficulty in unfurnished rental properties, the project will tackle the lack of second-hand furniture available and support those needing to replace broken or damaged household items. It will also assist people with debt issues, improve their confidence and life skills, increase their computer skills and encourage them to get into volunteering.

Fusion Radio from Pride Media Association Limited £130,831 (2006)

Works with disadvantaged young people from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds, developing a series of community radio broadcasts in order to promote cultural cohesion and unite young people across the Rochdale region. Delivered over two years, the first year of the scheme will establish three independent projects in the towns of Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton, encouraging individuals to come together and develop their own identity through a radio station.
