A man has died following a collision in Heywood

A 65-year-old man has died following a collision between a silver Mercedes and silver Volkswagen Transporter on Walton Street, Heywood on Monday afternoon (24 September).

The driver of the Mercedes, a man, turned left off Newhouse Road on to Walton Street and was involved in a collision with the Volkswagen Transporter.

He was taken to hospital after suffering from a "suspected medical episode", but he sadly died.

The driver of the Volkswagen was not injured and remained at the scene to speak with officers.

Police Sergeant Darren Hancock, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We have specialist officers who are doing all they can support the man’s family at this incredibly difficult time and my thoughts are very much with them.

“Our investigation to establish the full circumstances that led to this collision remains ongoing and I would ask anyone that may have seen either car in the area prior to the collision to get in touch.

“We are also appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have CCTV or dash-cam footage to please get in touch.”
