Wardle Remembrance Sunday 11 November started with a parade from the village of Wardle to Wardle War Memorial, led by Wardle Academy Brass Band.

Wreaths were laid by Mayor Mohammed Zaman, Member of Parliament Tony Lloyd, party leaders, representatives of the armed forces, police and other ex-service organisations and representatives from churches.

Other organisations, including Brownies, Guides and Scouts, local schools and members of the public also laid their wreaths.

Hymns sung at the service included; 'O God, our help in ages past', 'The day thou gavest, Lord, is ending', 'The sun that bids us rest is waking'.

Revd Rachel Battershell said: “Let us remember before God, and commend to his sure keeping those who have died for their country in war; those whom we knew, and whose memory we treasure; and all those who have lived and died in the service of humanity.”

The Exhortation was read: ‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.’

The Last Post was played followed by two Minutes Silence and the Reveille.

The Kohima Epitaph was read: The dawn leads on another day, When you go home, The voice of prayer is never silent, Tell them of us and say, Nor dies the strain of praise away. For your tomorrow, We gave our today.

The Blessing was followed by The National Anthem.

Revd Rachel Battershell finished the service with a Blessing: ‘May God grant to the living grace, to the departed rest, to the Church, the Queen, the Commonwealth and all people, unity, peace and concord and to us and all God’s servants, life everlasting and the Blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be among you and remain with you always."
