Donation to celebrate 50 years of Alkrington Library

Alkrington Library has recently celebrated its 50th birthday and to commemorate the occasion Taylor Wimpey Manchester has donated £300 to improve its facilities.

The library continues to be the hub of the community and the donation from Taylor Wimpey will be used to bring the library into the present day. The equipment within the centre had been in place since opening in 1968, and the donation will be used to replace older items and introduce new facilities.

Vicky Clarke, libraries and customer services manager for Rochdale Borough Council, comments: “The library really is the hub of the area and lots of community groups make use of the facilities. It’s well used and plays a vital part of the community in Alkrington.

“Without the support of businesses like Taylor Wimpey we would struggle to provide our services to the local community that rely on the library as place to discover, learn and connect with others.”

Thanks to the donation from Taylor Wimpey, the library will have a host of new facilities including improved seating, craft tables, a television and new display areas.

Chloe Dunn, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpey Manchester, adds: “We’re always more than happy to help local organisations and because our Pennine Gate development is located in the area we we’re especially keen to get involved.

“It is a great community investment for us – we were delighted to get involved as soon as we heard of the opportunity.”
