Rochdale resident appeals to help disadvantaged children this Christmas

Date published: 14 November 2018

Georgina Ullah, a Rochdale resident, has for the first time this year teamed up with Hits Radio for their annual ‘Mission Christmas’.

Mission Christmas is an annual appeal launched in November to help underprivileged children in the Greater Manchester areas, including Rochdale, who are disabled, disadvantaged or living in poverty.

Using her house as a drop off point, Georgina is seeking donations from local residents of new toys suitable for young people and children, ranging from ages 0 to 18 years old, both male and female.

She said: “There are so many underprivileged and disadvantaged children out there that don't get anything on the most magical day of the year, Christmas Day.

“Not all children that get nothing on Christmas Day are abused or hurt, although there are too many examples of where this is the case... some have single parents that work all the time and the money they bring in just covers the bills and doesn't leave much when it comes to Christmas. The gifts are split between hospitals, children’s homes, help is given to single parents, plus other locations where children are disadvantaged.

“For some families, Christmas is a luxury they just can't afford. Please join me in donating and help me relight the Christmas spark for children this year.

“I was told a long time ago I couldn't have children, although going through test after test to try, it hurts me knowing there are children out there who get nothing, and I want to stop it.

“The toys do not have to be expensive, anything from a doll, action figures, selection boxes, cars, barbies, colouring books, pens, craft stuff, anything you can... Just one present from one person would help massively.

“All donations will be put on my Christmas Big Give 2018 page on Facebook.”

Donations of new toys can be dropped off at 100 Entwisle Road, Rochdale, OL16 2JJ any evening through the week after 4.30pm. Please contact Georgina if you are interested in donating on 07972 324 705.

Drop off times are as follows:

  • Monday after 4.30pm
  • Tuesday after 8.30pm
  • Wednesday after 4.30pm
  • Thursday after 8.30pm
  • Friday after 4.30pm

Saturday and Sunday drop offs can be made all day but please call beforehand.

The deadline for gifts to be donated is Wednesday 16 December 2018.
