Bomb hoax at Middleton high school

Date published: 16 November 2018

A bomb hoax was made at a Middleton high school on Thursday (15 November).

Staff at Middleton Technology School received a phone call during the afternoon, claiming a bomb had been planted in the school.

The school was immediately evacuated, and police informed.

No such threat has been found following an extensive police search and review of CCTV.

A spokesperson for the school said: “On Thursday afternoon, we received a telephone call to say that a bomb had been placed in the school.

“The school is committed to the safety and education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate with parents about safety issues when they arise.

“After conferring with the police, it was decided to immediately evacuate the building. Whilst the police have not suggested that this is a serious threat, they have conducted a full search of the premises, including reviewing footage of CCTV, and nothing has been found.

“All threats to our school or students are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.”

Classes resumed as standard on Friday 16 November.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Police were called at around 1.50pm to Middleton Technology College to reports that threats had been made.

"Officers attended and discovered there was no viable threat.

"Police community support officers (PCSOs) will be in the area over the coming days for reassurance and if anyone has any concerns, they can report these directly to officers or by calling 101."
