Christmas toy appeal gets a festive boost

Date published: 21 November 2018

Three local councillors have helped kick start the town’s annual Christmas toy appeal.

The councillors for Spotland and Falinge - Cecile Biant, Faisal Rana and Wendy Cocks - handed over festive goodies at the collection point at Spotland Library, supporting the annual appeal which gives toys to local children in need.

The appeal, organised by the ‘Giving Back’ charity run by Rochdale Borough Council staff, has been going for four years. Last year, more than 2,300 toys were distributed to less fortunate children.

Councillor Cecile Biant said: “I hope everyone will be able to support this worthwhile cause. All the donated toys will go to local needy children who would otherwise go without."

Councillor Wendy Cocks added: “Christmas is a special time, especially for children. It’s also a time for sharing and giving. What better way to celebrate than helping others and making sure no child in Rochdale goes without this Christmas.”

Councillor Rana said: “I am really pleased to support the toy appeal. There are many families who are really struggling and it’s even more difficult at this time of year. No child should wake up on Christmas morning without a present to unwrap."

Residents are urged to buy an extra present for a child up to the age of 16 and drop it off, unwrapped, at any library throughout the borough before Friday 14 December.
