Six-year-old girl to donate hair and raise funds for Save Samantha

Date published: 29 November 2018

A six-year-old girl from Littleborough is aiming to raise £300 for the Save Samantha Appeal by donating her hair.

Sophia Malik, who attends Holy Trinity CofE School in Littleborough, has decided to have 12 inches of her hair cut to be donated to the Little Princess Trust, and raise vital funds for Samantha Smith's life-saving surgery.

Samantha, whose brain and spinal cord were being crushed under the weight of her own skull, urgently needs to raise £250,000 by January for a ‘lifetime fix’ operation in America.

To date, Sophia has raised £237 towards the cause.

The schoolgirl decided to have 12 inches of hair cut as the requirement for the Little Princess Trust to make a real-hair wig for children with conditions that result in hair loss, such as alopecia or chemotherapy.

120g of hair is required for each wig, which is approximately five to seven donations: a minimum donation of seven inches is required.

Sophia will be having her hair cut at Hair by Sophie Claire in Rochdale over the second weekend of December.
