Borough’s In Bloom celebratory dinner rounds off fantastic year

This year’s outstanding In Bloom celebrations were rounded off nicely with a special celebratory dinner at Rochdale Town Hall on Wednesday (28 November).

All volunteers and participants were invited to the special pie supper as a ‘thank you’ from Rochdale Borough Council for all their hard work in making 2018 the best year yet for the Royal Horticultural Society’s Britain in Bloom Contest.

Rochdale in Bloom scooped an outstanding number of awards at this year’s RHS In Bloom contest, with a gold award for the third year in a row in the Large Town/Small City category at North West in Bloom, plus gold at the national Britain in Bloom.

Pennines and Heywood also received a gold award each while Middleton, which entered the competition for only the second time this year, received a silver-gilt.

The team also went on to achieve a further 33 awards for the regional route and 30 awards for It's Your Neighbourhood entries, more than any other town in the competition.

A small number of additional awards were handed out during the dinner celebration from the chairmen and chairwomen of Rochdale, Middleton and Pennines In Bloom groups.

After congratulating the other townships, Roy Down said: “The big thing this year was being in the national contest, very daunting.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped make everything possible.”
