Heywood schoolchildren take part in reading and writing workshops with author Yvonne Weatherhead

Date published: 23 January 2019

Year Six children at a Heywood school recently took part in several reading and writing workshops with author Yvonne Weatherhead, studying her book series ‘Starfly’.

Some of the pupils at St Luke's CE Primary School spent several mornings studying Mrs Weatherhead’s books about the early life of a young adventurous sheepdog, plus characters, themes and images, before the exciting opportunity to edit chapters of the book, and have their name published to acknowledge their work.

The most recent workshop saw the children focus on ‘The Red Fox’ from the Starfly series, taking the book home and delving deep into the story, as well as creating and editing images and studying the animal inspiration behind the Red Fox character.

The children worked extremely hard and even produced their own interactive and informative Spring Watch programme, which involved audience participation from both staff and children, displaying the vast knowledge they had gained in just a few short days.

The children would like to thank Mrs Weatherhead for her fantastic workshops and look forward to more in the future.
