A spring on Heritage Green is being decommissioned
A spring on Heritage Green, Norden that used to serve a dye factory is being decommissioned.
After water poured forth during last year’s heavy rain, the spring, which used to serve a dye factory at Caldershaw Mills, was discovered. Pumping equipment is still present at the bottom of the spring and the 500ft shaft will be filled in by around 10 tonnes of gravel.
Mark Hope, of Friends of Heritage Green, said: “The water was used last summer during the drought by the council to water plants, but it is a shame there is no future for it.”
Following a lengthy journey for Heritage Green to be approved as a village green, the application was unanimously approved in October 2018.
