Milnrow Church receives £10,000 lottery boost for Memorial restoration

Parishioners at St James Church, Milnrow, are celebrating a £10,000 grant award from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Accessing funds from the First World War: Then and Now programme, the money will go towards the restoration of the St James War Memorial which was built 100 years ago.
Councillor Andy Kelly said: “This is a fantastic boost to the heritage of our area.
“The monument in the church yard is the village memorial to those lost in the Great War.
“In recent years, the memorial and its surrounding area and paths have fallen into disrepair.
“The project will not only restore an important local asset but opens the heritage up to a wider audience.”
The restoration will also repair pathways and chain fencing, deliver education sessions with the primary school, create a guide book and interpretation, and hold open days to involve more people in the heritage.
A reopening and celebration day is also planned.
