Petrus Community’s annual charity sleepout on Friday 29 March
Each year, Petrus invites the public to spend one night experiencing what it is like to sleep rough whilst raising funds for local charities.
Rochdale AFC’s Crown Oil Arena will host Petrus Community’s annual charity sleepout on Friday 29 March.
Armed with only a cardboard box, blankets and a sleeping bag, those who take part will also help to raise awareness of some of the issues faced by those who are homeless.
The sleepout will take place in the secured grounds of the Crown Oil Arena. It will be a safe and fun event, with access to toilets and refreshments available.
Rochdale AFC staff will be taking part, including Chief Executive David Bottomley and the Community Trust's Siobhan McElhinny.
Sonia Denham, Deputy Head of Petrus said: “The Rochdale Sleepout is a fantastic event that raises thousands of pounds for local charities.
“Although it is nothing like really sleeping rough, it gives people an insight into what homelessness is really like, and the difficulties people have to face on a daily basis.
“The event will raise funds to support vulnerable people with mental health support needs, homelessness and substance misuse by providing opportunities such as training, social inclusion and support.
“It is also a really fun event. We have over 30 people taking part and although it’s tough, it’s a really enjoyable evening.”
This event has been organised by Petrus Community but all funds raised will go to the Rochdale's Mayors Charities:
- British Heart Foundation
- Moorend Development Trust
- Parkinson’s UK
- Petrus Community
- Rochdale Community Partnership
- Springhill Hospice
Rochdale Sleepout will take place on Friday 29 March 2019 from 7.00pm until 7.00am at the Crown Oil Arena.
