Hundreds of fire extinguishers dumped on Windy Hill

Date published: 21 March 2019

Hundreds of fire extinguishers have been fly-tipped on the moors above Rochdale, near the border of Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire, on Thursday (21 March).

They were left next to a transmitter on Windy Hill, above junction 22 of the M62 near the Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire borders.

The shocking find was discovered by West Yorkshire Police motorway patrol officer PC Martin Willis, who posted a photo of the extinguishers on social media shortly after 12 noon.

Councillor Neil Emmott, Rochdale Borough Council’s cabinet member for environment said: “We have received a report of a number of fire extinguishers being dumped on Windy Hill.

“We investigate all complaints of fly-tipping and won’t hesitate to take action against those responsible.”

Anyone who has any information about fly-tipping, is urged to report it at: rochdale.gov.uk/flytipping or by calling 0300 303 8884.

All information received will be kept in the strictest confidence.
