Removal of over 1,000 dumped fire extinguishers has cost taxpayers thousands of pounds

Date published: 22 March 2019

Over 1,000 fire extinguishers were tipped on Windy Hill earlier this week – and it has cost taxpayers thousands of pounds to remove, Rochdale Borough Council revealed on Friday (22 March).

The cannisters were dumped on the moors above Rochdale, near the border of Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire, on Thursday (21 March).

Speaking on Friday, a council spokesperson confirmed a staggering 1,077 cannisters were removed: “We’ve now removed the last of the fly-tipped fire extinguishers and the grand total is 1,077.

“It has cost taxpayers thousands to remove, but there is enough evidence to chase the culprits.”
